Litany against Fear
I must not fear.
Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.
Only I will remain.
This litany is from Dune.
Happy Birthday Lock Leong! Somehow I feel guilty about not buying you a Bdae present cause I only found out the night before after Guan Lin reminded me it was your Birthday.
Anyway I went with Guan Lin Lock Leong Ye Zhou and Yi Fan to ice-skate. First time skating and it was fun for me. Fell down a few times and nearly managed to make guan lin fall. GL and LL were making ice balls from the artificial ice and throwing them randomly. When we were about to leave I realized that my toes hurt so much because I wore my left skate on my right foot and my right skate on my left foot>.<.
We went to pizza hut and ordered student meals after that. Finished half the bottle of cheese. Then we went to the Arcade and Guan Lin kindly treated us to two games of Daytona. He got 2nd for both games. So sad. Daytona is fun.

The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it. - Terry Pratchett
Attention is narrowed perception
There was a man who sat each day looking out through a narrow vertical opening where a single board had been removed from a tall wooden fence. Each day a wild ass of the desert passed outside the fence and across the narrow opening — first the nose, then the head, the forelegs, the long brown back, the hindlegs, and lastly the tail. One day, the man leaped to his feet with the light of discovery in his eyes and he shouted for all who could hear him: "It is obvious! The nose causes the tail!"
— Stories of the Hidden Wisdom, from the Oral History of Rakis, Heretics of Dune
The above story seems to imply that paying attention is detrimental to observation because it narrows the scope of perception and how we see the links in between things. Is the problem merely one of trying to look deep or trying to look broadly? Personally, I think that looking deep into something means that you have to look from a wide perspective so that you understand the the way the issue links to others. From the links, you can tell much about the issue itself.

To play it safe is not to play.
Robert Altman (1925 - 2007)
Haha. Holidays passed so fast(as always). Spent most of my free time having fun with my brother and playing games. Went to watch 10,000bc on tuesday with Guan Lin, Derek Samuel and some random person. THe movie wasn't very nice. Actually we planned to go to sam's house but turns out he was very tired from the night before because he got drunk at some party from helping people drink vodka(!). Watched The Spiderwick Chronicles with my family on thursday, quite a nice show in my opinion (better than 10,000 bc at least).
Now for a screenshot of the game that wasted most of my time this holiday --- advance wars! The graphics look childish but its very fun. Sort of like chess. nvm

Notice that im doing chaos as well. :O
Five things I am thinking of now:
1. Blogging
2. CHAOS
3. Some people who are going to read this post
4. Training Tommorow
5. Sleeping

Visited the blogs of many people today - Guan Lin, Lock Leong, Matthias, Zhi Ming, Nigel Fong, Mr Koh, Patrica Nathan and some other interesting people.
Apparently RJC Chem Department thinks Mr Koh is using their domain name and wants him to remove his blog. www.cheemystery.blogspot.com
Went to Botanical Gardens for easy run today to familiarize with the new race route. Some parts of the run were very narrow - considering that 300 over people will be running that same trail we ran. I accidentally left my jersey and pants there. :(
7 more days to Ubuntu 8 alpha 6. Can't wait.
